Brief Description:

This is an early 20th century British national flag, popularly known as the Union Jack. The flag should only be called the “Union Jack" when attached to a ship or ocean-going vessel. This particular Jack is unique in that it is square in shape, which is unusual. This flag design was first used by the United Kingdom in 1801 – and depicts the superimposition of the flags of the English cross of St George, the Scottish Cross of St Andrew and the Northern Irish Saltire of St Patrick. This flag has been printed on linen, machine sewn with reinforced edges; and sewn grommets. The name 'Beatrice Dunham' is penned on the fly end, possibly the author Beatrice Dunham.
