Founded by Alfred Dunhill in 1893, Dunhill is one of Great Britain’s best-loved and most recognised heritage brands. Today it is recognised for a myriad of luxury products, from its bespoke and off the peg tailoring, through to its lighters, pens and fragrances. The company’s roots lie in Alfred spotting an opportunity amongst the increasing popularity of cars at the turn of the 20th century. In 1907, he released his first “Dunhill Motorites” collection, with its strapline of “Everything but the Motor.” The attention to detail and beauty of crafted clothing, accessories and small, personal items remains as important today as it was back then.
We cannot but hold a soft spot for founder Alfred, when reading his words from 1923: "My experience in the motorists' trade has convinced me that, if one can exactly meet the desires of a good class of public, time alone is necessary to make it profitable. Compared with quality, price is relatively important."
