Sunday on the Potomac | Washington, DC Art | Original Oil Painting by Claire Howard | 60" x 36"

I crossed the graceful Potomac River early one Sunday morning. Flowing eastward towards Washington, the waters that morning were gentle, with a quiet beauty whose sparkle shone from within. It was the bright light that held my watch: sunshine pushing its way behind moody clouds as if to tell me they had silver linings. They were spectacular. I followed that light on the river until I reached the other side and could no longer see the river. But I would not forget her. This painting celebrates those wonderful unexpected moments when time stops.
A breathtaking 36” x 60” in scale, this painting is a statement piece to complement an entry foyer, stairway landing, or focal wall. There is a magical depth to the perspective which draws the viewer into this piece and the feeling that one is indeed on the river. Most meaningful, is the fact that this is indeed the accurate perspective of the river at this point. The beautiful colors in this painting lend themselves to blending well in many interior room palettes, from greens to blues to grays, and to minimal whites. This is truly a special painting.
